Hierarchy Sweaters - Mercedes Gertz
“The Hierarchy Sweaters” is a project by conceptual artist Mercedes Gertz. Stitching Borders had the pleasure to bring these powerful pieces to life. The artist provided us with 4 sketches, based on those drawings we created 4 unique patterns. The 4 sweaters each symbolize an archetypical figure of authority and were worn by different women in public spaces in several cities. These performances played with gender norms and stereotypes in order to problematize social power relations that affect women in western societies.
